It is stated in the F.D.A. document Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 Chapter 1 Part 170, Subpart A, Section 170.3 n (22) written September 1972 and updated April 1, 2003, (21CFR 170.3) that “Gelatins, including flavored gelatin desserts, …and gelatin base salads.”  are given G.R.A.S. (Generally Regarded as Safe) status.
